Photovoltaic Installer and Maintenance Training
SPARE—Solar Power as Renewable Energy

With support from Congressman James T. Walsh and along with our partners, we have received a Workforce Investment Act grant to provide photovoltaic installer and maintenance training to individuals who are interested in learning about the design and installation process of photovoltaics. This project, SUNY SPARE (State University of New York Solar Power as Renewable Energy), is part of ESF’s larger efforts to serve New York State’s current and emerging renewable andsustainable energy training and educational needs.

Photovoltaic Installer Courses for 2008

SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry (ESF) partners with SUNY Onondaga Community College (OCC) to offer Photovoltaic Installer Courses with Dr. Gay Canough. Complete this course and also meet a requirement for certification through NABCEP as a PV installer! For details on certification, visit www.nabcep.org.

4-day Photovoltaic Installer Courses:

Fee $275 for an individual, or $250 per person if registering two or more people from the same company, union or organization.

*Before taking this course, it is highly recommended that you take one of the 4-day introductory Installer Courses or have previous installer experience.

The successful SPARE participant should have either a high school diploma or a GED. Men and women in the HVAC, electrical and ironworker trades are particularly encouraged to explore this value-added training.

Our Payment Policy

We welcome your participation at Outreach events.  Pre-registered, pre-paid registrants are asked to check in at the onsite registration desk to receive a name badge and any handouts. Effective May 2008, registration fees must be paid prior to admittance.

  • If you have pre-registered and have a balance due, please be prepared to make your payment at the onsite registration desk.  We will accept a personal or business check, payable to SUNY Research Foundation, or VISA or MasterCard (Sorry, no American Express).
  • Registrants using a Purchase Order or Voucher are asked to provide the PO/Voucher number as well as a credit card number.  If payment is not received within 30 days after the event, your credit card will be charged the appropriate fee.
  • If you have not pre-registered, please bring a completed registration form with your payment (check, VISA or Mastercard) to the onsite registration desk (blank registration forms will also be available at the registration desk for your convenience).
