The SAGE project has been ramped up for the 2209-10 year. We are excited about partnering with the Metropolitan Development Association of Central New York and Syracuse (MDA) by holding a one day seminar that provides the instruction and encouragement for high school students to participate in the the MDA's Business Idea Competition that has a prize of $5,000. With continued support from CNY Works, we will host high school students and teachers as they explore ways to make the world a better place.
Join us for a day where science geeks, policy wonks, creative thinkers, risk takers and business-minded students and teachers will learn about opportunities and ventures in profit and non-profit contexts with the goal of developing a business idea that they can then enter in the MDA Business Idea Competition.

About the SAGE Project
The SAGE project will expose high school students and teachers to people and ideas that demonstrate the green entrepreneurial spirit. Participants will become better versed in the science of environmental challenges, entrepreneurial thinking, and the role they can play in meeting these challenges. Environmental innovation is not only a social consciousness issue but an econmic one. New advances and innovations can lead to new jobs and business enterprises.
Global energy needs and other environmental challenges make environmental — or “green” — entrepreneurship a compelling area of interest today. A national study (Battelle Memorial Institute) reported that the Syracuse/Central New York area is seen as a national leader in several sectors of green technology and innovation. The SAGE Project builds upon our region's natural, economic, educational and workforce resources to support the sustainability and green entrepreneurship education and professional development needs of students, teachers, and professionals.
"The last few decades have belonged to a certain kind of person with a certain kind of mind--computer programmers who could crank code, lawyers who could craft contracts, MBAs who could crunch numbers. But the keys to the kingdom are changing hands. The future belongs to a very different kind of person with a very different kind of mind--creators and empathizers, pattern recognizers, and meaning makers. These people--artists, inventors, designers, storytellers, caregivers, consolers, big picture thinkers--will now reap society's richest rewards and share in its greatest joys.'' Daniel H. Pink, 2005, A Whole New Mind: Why Right-Brainers Will Rule the Future. New York Times and BusinessWeek Bestseller.
Our goal is to create a “green entrepreneurial culture” of informed and prepared young people in our region.
