About the Volunteer Science Corps

The Volunteer Science Corps evolved from the ESF Science Corps.  Established originally by a National Science Foundation grant in 2003, the ESF Science Corps supports campus-based, in-school, workplace and field-based STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) learning and professional development experiences for middle and high school students and teachers.

teamMembers of the Volunteer Science Corps make valuable contributions to several ongoing STEM initiatives, including ESF SCIENCE (Summer Camps Investigating Ecology in Neighborhood and City Environments), NSF GK12 project, Environmental Challenge science fair, and ESF in the High School.  In addition, Volunteer Science Corps members serve the greater Syracuse community through their involvement in a variety of environmental outreach and educational programs, such as outdoor festivals, K-12 events, and the Great NY State Fair.

Since 2006, the Volunteer Science Corps has maintained a dynamic membership of nearly fifty SUNY-ESF undergraduate & graduate students, staff, faculty, and alumni.

If you are interested in becoming a member of the Volunteer Science Corps or would like more information about program initiatives, please contact Tom Hughes in ESF Outreach at 315-470-6817 or e-mail thughes@esf.edu.
