Research Interests

Scale Up of Biopulping

Scale Up of Biopulping

We demonstrate that the biopulping process for mechanical pulping is technologically and economically feasible. This research involves transferring the technology to the industry.

Biochemical Pulping

Biochemical Pulping

We investigate the use fungal pretreatments for sulfite and kraft pulping. Currently, we are working on understanding the use of biopulping for kraft pulping as well as understand the mechanism of the fungal pretreatment.

Neural Network Applications

Neural Network Applications

We investigated the use of artificial neural networks for process modelling and control. This research describes a method of incorporating known information into neural network models that learn more quickly and are more understandable.

Paper Recycling

Paper Recycling

We researched various aspects of paper recycling and contaminant removal. Various aspects of the recylcing process are investigated in a series of studies.

Stock Flow Modelling

Stock Flow Modelling

We are developing dynamic and detailed models for stock flow systems. We are investgating both recycling system flowsheets as well as the wet end of a papermachine.
