The Roosevelt Sustainability Center

The Roosevelt Sustainability Center (RSC) is an institute of scientists from the disciplines of economics, ecology, social science, and law who are committed to positioning New York as the leader in economically sound, sustainable development . With strong partnerships in industry, government, academia, and non-governmental organizations, the RSC provides decision makers with science that serves the public interest in the following manner:

  1. Data Center. RSC is developing the following three data resource services for utilization by decision makers:
    1. A compilation of the valuable but widely scattered economic, demographic and environmental data collected by state and federal agencies, and other organizations, into a single source;
    2. An online indexing and retrieval system;
    3. The translation of data from different sources into comparable forms to ease analysis.
  2. Non-partisan analysis. RSC provides specifically tailored information to address needs expressed by local communities, businesses and state agencies. RSC conducts ongoing investigations into the economic, social and environmental trends of localities, regions, the state and the nation, especially as they affect New York.
  3. Assistance to Local Communities. The RSC assists communities in planning for development that enhances environmental quality. RSC works with local leaders to identify wealth indices tailored to community values, and to design monitoring programs to track success or facilitate adaptive management.
  4. State of theState’s Environment Report (Available in the Future). The RSC will publish online analysis on the status of New York’s environment. RSC will work with leaders of business, government and non-government organizations to identify and monitor indicators of economic success and social and environmental vitality. Through computer-aided visualization, RSC would provide information to the public and to policymakers.
