Personal Statement
After spending a summer working as a timber framer while studying engineering and architecture in college, I developed a strong interest in the strength and structural performance of timber buildings. Since starting my current research project, I have been working to develop a non-destructuve method for assessing the structural characteristics of timber joinery. The goal of the research would be to assist design and construction teams in their work to efficiently adapt and reuse timber buildings for current needs.

Graduate Research Topic
My current research involves providing better information for the reuse and rehabilitation of timber structures. Specifically I have been working to develop a method to determine the rotational stiffness of timber joinery using vibration analysis.

Personal Statement
The built environment has always been the central interest of my personal and occupational education. It was my passion for design that led me to Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech) for my undergraduate study of architecture. While I consider my undergraduate education monumentally important in the development of my comprehension of design theory, after obtaining my Bachelors of Architecture I found myself craving a better understanding of the immediacies of the built world in order to push my design ability to its full potential. I believe that the Graduate Construction Management program at SUNY ESF substantially furthers my education in both the economics and sustainability of construction, two areas that are essential to the advancement of the field of design and construction.
