Island Facilities

Access to the Governor' s Island is provided through our long-term membership at the Clayton Yacht Club (CYC) at Bartlett Point, 3/4 of a mile from Governor’s Island.  Facilities on the island include a boathouse and docks at the foot of the island and a main lodge and living cabins on the bluff.  The Main Lodge serves as an office for the TIBS research program, as well as, providing kitchen and bath facilities. Also located at the head of the island are the Director' s cabin and the graduate student residences.

The boathouse contains a wet lab with filtered flow-through and a temperature control system, a small dry lab, a tool shop and a student residence. Docks allow access of 6-10' draft vessels up to 50' . TIBS boats include a 22' Privateer with 150 HP VRO Fuel Injection Mercury, a 17' Boston Whaler with 90 HP VRO Fuel Injection Mercury, a 16' Lund with 30HP 4-stroke, and several other smaller boats.

Mainland Facilities

A research annex is leased cooperatively through the Thousand Island Land Trust (TILT). The research annex provides mainland access to student offices, laboratory space and equipment and is within walking distance of the CYC.

Directions

TIBS at Governor's Island is located in the Town of Clayton, NY, 90 miles north of Syracuse, NY.

From ESF, take 81N through Watertown, NY to Exit 47. At the end of the exit ramp, go left on NYS 12 approximately 20 miles to Clayton, NY. At the stoplight, go left onto 12E, cross the French Creek bridge, and continue 0.7 mile to Barlett Pt. Road on the right. Turn down Bartlett Point Road and follow to the Clayton Yacht Club (CYC). Parking is above docking area. Call for a ride; all pets must be restrained.

The research annex is located on the 1st right past the Bartlett Pt. Road, two brick entrance pillars are at the access road, take a left to the metallic building complex (Zenda Farm).
