UMEB is an intensive 2-year experience of mentoring, research and community outreach activities in a supportive learning environment.  Highlights of the program include:

 

-       Two years of UMEB seminar. Year 1 is designed to support development of inquiry skills, integrative theme, research tools and development of the research proposal. Year 2 follows the student’s field research experience and focuses on data analysis, professional communication, outreach and preparation for career and graduate school

 

-       Presentation of student research projects in professional venues

 

-       Partnership with Native American high school programs and Onondaga Community College to encourage interest in and preparation for ESF/UMEB programs

 

-       Community outreach and application of research skills in the context of place-based Adirondack science and stewardship with partner organizations (e.g., Adirondack Park Agency, NYS Department of Environmental Conservation)

 

-       Career development activities in seminar and in concert with stewardship mentors and others

 

-       Student support services in cooperation with the ESF Multicultural Outreach Program
