Candidates for the UMEB research experience will be selected primarily from students recruited to ESF as freshmen, transfer students from community colleges that serve the Native American population of the region, and pre-ESF. UMEB encourages the participation of students from the diverse array of cultures that characterize our region, with a particular focus on Iroquois (Haudenosaunee) communities and the urban minority high schools with which we have well-established recruiting partnerships. The program is intended to increase the cultural diversity of the environmental biology professions, by supporting the success of students from traditionally underrepresented populations. All ESF students are welcome to participate.
