WebDAV with Windows 2000 and XP using Internet Explorer

New connection/configuration info:

In the step-by-step instructions below, note that you must change how you specify the server you access to the following form:

https://wwwpublish.esf.edu (not http://www.esf.edu)
https://cwwpublish.esf.edu (not http://cww.esf.edu) or
https://campuspublish.esf.edu (not http://campus.esf.edu)

Step-by-step using Internet Explorer (IE)

An IE browser window will be your access point to your files on the web. You will need IE 5.5 or better.

  1. Open Internet Explorer
  2. In the File menu, select "Open..." (you must use this method; it will not work to enter the address in IE's regular browser address field).
  3. IE ISSUES

    1) IE7 PROBLEM: If you use Microsoft Internet Explorer version 7 and cannot access the web server, please email webmaster@esf.edu.

POSSIBLE IE7 SOLUTION: If the connection process via IE7 seems to be stalled, look behind the frontmost window on your screen (click on taskbar tabs to cycle through windows). The certificate-warning box (see step 4) may open behind a main window. Call 4858 with questions.

    2) LOG-IN TWICE ISSUE: If the login box pops up twice requiring you to enter username and password a second time, just do it. Why? Beats me. --PO

  4. In the window that appears:
    1. Check the checkbox next to "Open as Web folder."
    2. In the "Open:" field, enter the full web address for the folder you want to access, e.g., https://wwwpublish.esf.edu/erfeg/smith/
    3. Double check the address:
      1. https (not http)
      2. wwwpublish (not www)
      3. / at the end (place / after folder name)
    4. Click OK (If at any point you see a warning about a certificate, accept it (click "yes" or "continue" or whatever word of acceptance is used).
  5. You should see a login box. If it is a 3-field box, put "esfadmin (or students)" in the domain box. If it's a 2-field box, your username should be in the form: "esfadmin\username (or students\username)" If you have an esf.edu email account, use the associated password. Students should try their MyESF password. If that doesn't work, try your syr email or 'default' password. See this page for help.
  6. Connect.

Add it to your Favorites!

Once you succeed with the steps to the left, make sure to add the new location to your IE favorites so you can skip all the initial steps next time.

You should now see a window with icons for your folders and files. You may drag, drop, open, copy and/or delete just as you would with any other files and folders on your computer. Remember that the files in this IE window are live web files! If you wish to keep two copies -- a master on your computer and one on the web server -- you must drag-and-drop or otherwise copy the file to and from this window.
