Where in the World...
To get to Antarctica, Professor David Kieber flew from Syracuse via Los Angeles to New Zealand. He boarded the R/V Nathaniel B. Palmer in Lyttleton, NZ for the multi-day ship journey to the Ross Sea to begin his research. George Westby took a different route, flying to Punta Arenas, Chile, near the southern tip of South America, and then continuing by ship to reach Palmer Station on the Antarctic Peninsula of Antarctica.
