ESF Ranger School Celebrates Commencement

Graduation exercises were held at ESF's Ranger School, in Wanakena, New York May 15. This year's graduating class included 55 students receiving an associate of applied science degrees, with 27 in environmental and natural resources conservation program, 24 in the forest technology program, and four in the land surveying technology program. Experts from ESF, SUNY Upstate Join Rep. Katko to Highlight Efforts to Combat Tick-borne Illness

Standing with experts from SUNY Upstate Medical University and the SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry (ESF), U.S. Rep. John Katko (NY-24) July 19 announced renewed efforts on the federal level to combat Lyme disease and other tick-borne illnesses. (7/20)

Malmsheimer Honored with Matt McArdle Excellence in Bioenergy Award

Dr. Robert Malmsheimer was presented with the 2020 Matt McArdle Excellence in Bioenergy Award during the recent Virtual ESFPA Board Meeting. Bioenergy Board Member Charlie Niebling presented the award to Dr. Malmsheimer. (7/19)

Great Lakes Piping Plovers Boosted by ESF Research

An appealing little bird, the size of a sparrow and colored like the sand it nests in, has a better chance of persisting on the eastern Great Lakes thanks to the efforts of ESF researchers and their partners. (7/14)

Music from Their Ears

An ESF fisheries ecologist and a colleague with expertise in music have developed a new way to tell the story of how oxygen depletion in the world's oceans stunts the growth of economically valuable cod - they put the fishes' history to music and let them "sing." (7/2)

Dr. Malika Carter Honored with Harriet Tubman Freedom Award

Dr. Malika Carter, chief diversity officer at the SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry (ESF), was honored for her contributions to the community during Juneteenth celebrations in Syracuse. (7/1)
