ESF SCIENCE Corps Served As Guides and Instructors for the 1st Annual Women in NatureApril 21, 2007
Several ESF undergraduate students and alumni participated in the planning and implementation of an exciting new event called WOMEN IN NATURE sponsored by the Onondaga County Federation of Sportsmen’s Clubs. This free event was geared for women only and was held at the Fayetteville-Manlius Rod & Gun Club. Different workshops were held throughout the day to introduce women to various outdoor sporting and nature activities, including survival and camping skills, fly fishing, trailer backing, skeet shooting, archery, nature crafts, and edible wild plants. The event also featured a wild game luncheon where locally harvested fish, pheasant, grouse, geese, and venison were served. The event was a huge success with over 65 women participating and over 100 people in attendance. Even Onondaga County Executive Nick Pirro stopped by to check out the festivities – see Women in Nature 2007 Pictures
Thanks to the following ESF Science Corps for their valuable contributions – Tom Hughes, BrandiLee Schafran, Emily Gates, Kate Zogby, Becky Williams, & Lee Raza (instructors for fishing, nature journaling and edible wild plants) and Eli Polzer, Beth Hodson, & Ian Blackburn (guides and instructional support).
