Scientist-in-Residence (SiR) ProgramESF Science Corps
The Scientists-in-Residence (SiR) Program is currently in its 2nd year of operation at SUNY-ESF. With financial and administrative support from the New York Academy of Sciences, SiR connects ESF and SU students to educators in the Syracuse City Schools. Together, teachers and their residents work collaboratively to make science lessons more hands on, and more student driven.
Participating ESF and SU students are also offered access to continued professional development and the opportunity to gain college credit for their teaching experience. This year, SiR has placed 15 residents across 4 schools in SCSD including Dr. King, Westside Academy, Syracuse Academy of Sciences and the Expeditionary Learning Middle School. SiR provides a unique value proposition for our college students and school sites- ensuring that each student-teacher pair is benefitted by the partnership.
If you are seeking an opportunity to serve your community and hone your communication and leadership skills, SiR can be an incredibly worthwhile experience. Recruiting for next year’s cohort will begin in September of 2018! If interested, please contact us!
