From Dr. Endreny...
"I am working on some rainfall analysis with the Cyprus Meteorological Survey (CMS), as well as the remotely sensed elevation model work. The rainfall data show depth (mm) of rain for the 1st month we arrived, December, as detected using the Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission (TRMM). These spatial and temporal maps are cool, showing increased rain as we would expect and have measured, in the Troodos Mountains. These are new to the CMS.
"I am also passing along a map of the Kyrenia (or Five Finger) Mountains, shown in cross-section, which we are analyzing for rainfall harvesting through qanats. Qanats are horizontal wells that dig into the limestone and collect the mountain filtered drinking water. This image was created by Turkish Cypriot colleagues interested in restoring wetlands that have lost water due to groundwater pumping and eucalyptus tree evapotranspiration."
