Typical Packing List
Moving to college can be overwhelming for students who haven't been on their own before. Here's a typical example of a packing list for new college students to help you plan.
Basics (and a few extras):
Bed Area:
- Pillows
- Linens for an XL twin sized bed (Centennial Hall)
- Comforter for an XL twin sized bed (Centennial Hall)
- Alarm clock
- Blankets/throws
- Slippers
Desk Area:
- Address Book
- Desk lamp and light bulb (no halogen)
- Office Supplies (notebooks, folders, binders, pens, high-lights, calculator, etc.)
- Backpack
- Surge protector/power strip
- Calendar
Personal Supplies:
- Laundry detergent/laundry basket
- Laundry drying rack
- Ironing and ironing board
- Bathroom supplies (cleaners, toilet paper, etc.)
- Money for textbooks
- Clothes for all weather
- Hangers
- Hair dryer
- Small fan
- Stamps
- Pictures of friends and family
- Shower caddy/shower shoes
- Towels/washclothes
- Boots/gloves/hats/earmuffs
Call first! Check with your roommate before you bring:
- DVD player/VCR
- Stereo
- Television
- Video game systems
What NOT to Bring:
- Appliances - Air conditioners, hotplates, toasters, toaster ovens, grills (including "George Foreman" grills), space heaters, etc. are not permitted). A MICROWAVE AND MINI FRIDGE ARE PROVIDED IN EVERY ROOM!
- Open flames - Candles, incense, etc.
- Console TVs
- Firearms, weapons, and fireworks
- Halogen lamps and multi-headed floor lamps
- Large pieces of furniture
- Pets
