Science Sunday - History of Logging on Rich Lake
Sunday, August 20, 2017
1:00 pm - 2:30 pm
Location: Adirondack Interpretive Center, 5922 State Route 28N, Newcomb, NY
Join us as we will delve into past and current ecological research from the 15,000 acre Huntington Wildlife Forest (HWF). For 85 years we have been studying the ecology and natural history of the Adirondacks as well as forest management, bio-geochemistry, and the cultural history of the region. A brief orientation on the topic will be followed by a foray out on the AIC trail system for further demonstration and discussion. This week, Paul Hai will discuss the history of logging in the Rich Lake area and you will visit an old log boom chain and site of the logging dam.
