Contested Terrain: Open-Space Protection and the Adirondack Economy
Guest Speaker: Philip G. Terrie, Ph.D.
Professor Emeritus at Bowling Green University and author of Contested Terrain: A New History of Nature and People in the Adirondacks
Abstract: Adirondack business interest and politicians routinely insist that the protection of open space-whether through expansion of the Forest Preserve, the restrictions on development in the Private Land Use Plan, or easements on private land-constitute a drag on the regional economy. This presentation examines the validity of this assertion in a state-wide and national context.
