ESF Offers Basic Planning Board Course
SYRACUSE, NY - The SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry (ESF) will offer a "Basic Planning Board" course this fall.
The course will furnish participants with the knowledge and skills needed to carry out the duties of a planning board or zoning board of appeals member effectively and responsibly.
Topics covered in the course include the planning process, board member responsibilities, interpersonal and leadership skills, legal framework, the tools of planning, and the mechanics of reviewing proposals.
The course, which is endorsed by the Upstate New York Chapter of the American Planning Association, will be taught by practicing planners, attorneys, and consultants as well as faculty from SUNY-ESF and Syracuse University.
Each participant of the course will be provided with a notebook and extensive take-home materials. Enrollment will be limited to 30 students. The class will be held on Thursdays for eight weeks from 7 to 9:30 p.m. beginning October 1 and continuing through November 19, 1998 in Bray Hall on the SUNY-ESF campus in Syracuse, NY.
Cost for the course is $195 ($5 extra charge for continuing education units) and the registration deadline is September 21, 1998.
