Event Description: "Transforming Workplace Culture." Marie Garland, Director of SU ADVANCE, and Sharon Alestalo, Program Coordinator of SU ADVANCE and WISE will discuss ways of looking at workplace culture, interaction in the workplace, male faculty engagement, and provide a brief overview of their programs. Dr. Garland's academic training and preparation is in the area of organizational communication, specifically in the interpersonal negotiation of identity via workplace interactions. Prior to coming to Syracuse University, she was the Director of Faculty and Staff Diversity, a position within central Human Resources at Cornell University. She also has experience as a faculty member at Ithaca College, where she held an appointment in the department of Strategic Communication (previously Organizational Communication, Learning, and Design). Prior to joining the WISE program, Ms. Alestalo was the program manager for the Healthy Marriage and Family Formation Training Grant to SU from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. She also served for 15 years as the executive director of Girls Incorporated of Central New York. All presentations are free and open to the public. Parking is available in Syracuse University's Irving Avenue Parking garage, $3.50 for the first hour, $2 for each additional.
