The Effect of Agrotransformation on Elephants and Tigers in Malaysia
Thursday, April 19, 2012
3:30 pm - 5:00 pm
Don Moore, the Associate Director of Animal Care at the Smithsonian National Zoo in Washington, DC will be coming to Marshall Auditorium on Thursday afternoon to give a talk about the effect of Agrotransformation on Elephants and Tigers in Malaysia. Don is an ESF alumni and a great speaker. His talk will cover the human-animal conflict efforts that the Smithsonian Institute and the National Zoo are currently involved in with the Malaysian government and what to do with the wildlife at the new oil palm “forest” edge. Don and his team are studying Asian elephant ecology and human-elephant conflict in range countries, cognition in range countries and in US zoos, and reproductive sciences around the world, while the National Zoo's vet teams are studying diseases and chemical management.
