Feinstone Environmental AwardsCampus Calendar

Thursday, October 17, 2013
6:00 pm - 9:30 pm

Location: Gateway Center

Event Description: SUNY-ESF is also the home of the Sol Feinstone Environmental Awards, which seek to recognize outstanding achievements in advancing the cause of the environment and social environmental issues. One of the oldest and most-respected award programs in the environmental field, the Feinstone Awards were established in 1976 by Sol Feinstone, a widely-known historian and author and a graduate of SUNY-ESF. His goal was to reward people and organizations that exemplified his belief that “the best insurance for a free society lay in people’s desire to do voluntarily the things that need to be done for the good of all.” The program recognizes leaders who care for the environment, encourage volunteerism and add to society’s understanding of environmental issues and their solutions. Past award recipients have come from science, conservation, government, public policy, teaching, and the media.

The Feinstone Environmental Awards Banquet is the primary annual fundraising event for SUNY-ESF, attracting over 200 business and community leaders. Proceeds raised from the event are used for the ESF Presidential Scholarship Awards for students who will ultimately become our future environmental leaders.

For 2013, the Feinstone Awards Committee wishes to recognize the importance of education related to science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

Larry Leatherman, President of the Museum of Science and Technology (MOST) in Syracuse, NY will receive the Feinstone Award in recognition of his leadership at the MOST and advancement of science education in the Central New York community.

The event will feature remarks by actor, director and environmentalist Ed Begley Jr.
