Balsa Bridges Smash and Crash at ESF
SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Teams from six Central New York high schools will participate Friday, April 30, in the 10th annual Balsa Wood Bridge Competition sponsored by the Student Construction Association at the SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry (ESF).
Bridges will be judged according to their weight and the load they hold. The winner will be the bridge with the greatest strength-to-weight ratio. More than 20 bridges will be judged.
The competition will begin at 9 a.m. in Room 110 of Baker Laboratory on the ESF campus.
The following schools are scheduled to participate: Homer Senior High School, G. Ray Bodley High School, Lowville Academy and Central School, Manlius Pebble Hill School, Milford Central School, and Corcoran High School.
Also participating is Christopher Wood of Geddes, a home-schooled seventh-grader with an interest in building bridges.
