SYRACUSE, N.Y. - A doctoral student at the SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry (ESF) is the recipient of the 1999 Edwin C. Jahn Graduate Student Fellowship Award.
Yalçin Çöpür is a native of Turkey and was educated at the University of Istanbul. He earned his master's degree at ESF and is currently working on his doctorate. His doctoral work focuses on pulping yield and fiber characteristics.
The $1,000 Jahn awards were established in 1989 by Empire State Paper Research Associates Inc., a worldwide organization of pulp, paper, and supplier companies that support research being done at ESF. The awards were named in honor of Dr. Edwin C. Jahn, a 1925 graduate of ESF and former college dean who had a long association with the paper research associates. Graduate students in the field of pulp and paper science are eligible for the award.
