Professional Society Honors ESF Landscape Architects


SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Two faculty members at the SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry (ESF) have been honored by the American Society of Landscape Architects.

Professor Richard S. Hawks of Syracuse, chair of the ESF Faculty of Landscape Architecture, has been elected to the society's 2000 Class of Fellows. Associate Professor James F. Palmer of Fayetteville received a national 2000 Professional ASLA Merit Award.

Hawks received the highest membership honor bestowed upon members of the society. He is being recognized for his service to the profession. He is the 39th ESF alumnus or faculty member to receive the honor.

Palmer was honored for a research project titled, "Conserving Dutch Landscape Spatial Diversity." His award was one of only two given this year in the research category.
