Former Senate Secretary Joins ESF Board of Trustees
SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Stephen F. Sloan, the former secretary of the New York State Senate, has been appointed to the SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry (ESF) Board of Trustees.
Sloan is an alumnus of ESF. He earned his master's and doctoral degrees, both in the field of resource management, from ESF in 1967 and 1969, respectively. He also serves the college as a member of the ESF College Foundation, Inc., board of directors.
Sloan joins the board of trustees after a career in public service. As secretary of the state senate for 17 years, he was responsible for the senate's business affairs, and served as an advisor to the majority leadership. He retired from the position in 1997.
After earning his bachelor's degree at Michigan State University, Sloan served as a legislative budget analyst with the New York State Senate Finance Committee and as senior staff member for the President's Council on Environmental Quality.
A native of Springfield Center in Otsego County, Sloan now resides in West Fulton. He is a member of the New York State Water Resources Planning Council.
