Strategic Goals

Developed in 2022 as part an institutional strategic planning initiative:

Lead in Critical Information Literacy Curriculum Delivery.

The F. Franklin Moon Library has one of the first credit bearing “library” courses in higher education. It exists in our undergraduate and graduate curriculums, ESF 200 and ESF 797, respectively, and reaches about half of ESF students. Rejecting the historic role of neutral facilitators, the library faculty have adopted Critical Theory into our curriculum to co-investigate with the community we serve the political, social, and economic dimensions of information, inherent to its creation, access, and use.

Innovate research through providing enhanced support at every stage of the research lifecycle.

The F. Franklin Moon Library hosts PivotRP, administered by the library and shared with the Office of Research Programs, which connects researchers with grant opportunities and potential research partners. The librarians support the research needs of faculty by obtaining resources through interlibrary loan and assisting with data management planning. The Experts@ESF repository provides a platform to share research data, grant information and research partners in accordance with grant agency requirements, and shares research widely to maximize the impact of scholarship of the college.

Provide Community and Cultural Enrichment through telling our story and bringing the stories of others to the community.

The SUNY ESF Archives and Special Collections is rich with college history and houses unique special collections – many of which have been digitized and shared to the ESF community and global community via online repositories and online finding aids. The accessibility of our unique collections assists both on and off campus researchers become part of the community. This Primary Source Collection is the story of ESF and the history of our research. The exhibits and educational programing it supports weave the past and present of our community together.
