ESF Weather Alert: Dangerously Cold Wind

The National Weather Service has issued a wind chill alert starting Friday and into this weekend across Upstate New York. Many areas will experience below-zero temperatures and wind gusts that could generate extreme wind chills, in some cases over 50 degrees below zero.

Please use extreme caution as you walk and drive on campus. If you are outdoors, we encourage you to follow these guidelines in order to remain safe:

  • Know the symptoms of cold stress (such as reddening skin, tingling, pain, swelling, leg cramps, numbness, and blisters)
  • Dress properly by wearing at least three layers of loose-fitting clothing, insulated gloves and boots, and a hat
  • Monitor your physical condition
  • Stay as dry as possible and bring extra clothes
  • Take frequent breaks in warm, dry areas
  • Drink warm liquids

If you are on campus and need assistance or medical attention, call University Police at 315-470-6667. Call 911 for emergencies off campus.

We will continue to monitor the weather and keep you informed.
