I earned my BS in Biology at Western Washington University in Bellingham, WA. It was there that I discovered the joys of entomology. Since then I have worked at Universiteit van Amsterdam as a volunteer in their insect collection, done IPM research on organic control of chrysomelid flea beetles through Washington State University Extension, and collaborated with Charles Darwin Foundation through ESF to develop control methods for Philornis downsi, an invasive muscid fly that parasitizes Darwin’s finches.
I am currently pursuing a MS in Forest Entomology. My scientific interests are assessing biodiversity and invasive insect control.
My research this summer is working with the NY-DEC doing biomonitoring for emerald ash borer using Cerceris fumipennis. This will allow me to document buprestid diversity and abundance ahead of the introduction of non-native emerald ash borer parasitoids.
For recreation, I enjoy collecting insects around the US and the world, in addition to biking, rock climbing, brewing beer, and snowboarding.
