Newcomb Campus Hosts 2014 Biotic Interactions ‘BioBlitz’

Members of the public are invited to join area naturalists and their colleagues for the 2014 "BioBlitz" that will focus on biotic interactions, such as the critically important role of pollinating insects, at the Adirondack Interpretive Center (AIC) June 29.

Chinese Edition of 'Challenging the Chip' Published

A Chinese edition ofChallenging the Chip: Labor Rights and Environmental Justice in the Global Electronics Industry, edited by Ted Smith, David A. Sonnenfeld, and David Naguib Pellow (Temple University Press, 2006), was published in May, in Taipei, Taiwan, by Socio Publishing Co., Ltd.

AIC Introduces Artist-in-Residence Program

Artist Frances Gaffney, who frequently uses the Adirondacks as a backdrop and source of inspiration, is the first artist in residence at the Adirondack Interpretive Center (AIC), the site of public outreach at the Newcomb Campus.

ESF Faculty Members Honored for Outstanding Commitment

ESF's Department of Paper and Bioprocess Engineering received the Outstanding Commitment Award from Partners for Education and Business, Inc. (PEB).

ESF Professor Receives Achievement Award

Dr. Myron Mitchell, a Distinguished Professor in ESF's Department of Environmental and Forest Biology, received the Adirondack Research Consortium's (ARC) Adirondack Achievement Award.

Scientists Announce Top 10 New Species for 2014

A carnivorous mammal, a 12-meter-tall tree and a sea anemone that lives under an Antarctic glacier are among the species identified by the SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry's International Institute for Species Exploration as the top 10 species discovered last year. An international committee of taxonomists and related experts selected the top 10 from among the approximately 18,000 new species named during the previous year.

ESF Professor Appointed Editor of International Journal

Dr. David A. Sonnenfeld, professor of sociology and environmental policy in the ESF Department of Environmental Studies, has been appointed as the new, incoming editor-in-chief of the international scholarly journal,Society & Natural Resources (S&NR​).
