Southwick Beach Gets a Cleanup
Members of the ESF college community participated in the Great Lakes Research Consortium second beach cleanup this fall.
Record-setting Helicopter Pilot Honored by SUNY-ESF
The award dinner focused on the need to recognize the role of innovative transportation in sustainable communities. Honoree Scott Kasprowicz, who recently served as deputy secretary of transportation for the Commonwealth of Virginia. called for individuals to take responsibility for helping to solve the problem of getting people where they need to be.
SUNY-ESF Students Join 350.org Event
The number 350 refers to 350 parts per million, the level that has been identified as the safe upper limit for carbon dioxide in the atmosphere.

U.S. Secretary of Energy Visits ESF
Visiting with the energy secretary, Congressman Daniel B. Maffei (NY-25) Maffei announced that the city of Syracuse will receive $1,444,500 in Recovery Act EECBG funds to improve energy efficiency and reduce greenhouse gas emissions, lowering the city's energy costs, while creating local green jobs.
2nd International Biorefinery Conference
The State University of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry (SUNY-ESF), the International Union of Biorefineries, and the Biorefinery Institute organized the 2nd International Biorefinery Conference under way today and continuing tomorrow at the Doubletree Hotel in East Syracuse, N.Y.

SUNY-ESF Joins National Association for Intercollegiate Athletics
ESF's intercollegiate teams will compete primarily with NAIA and NCAA Division III-level teams from New York and neighboring states.

ESF found a new way to study water displacement when several campus notables, including President Neil Murphy, plunged into a dunk tank Sept. 25 to raise money for the United Way.
ESF Presents Housing Plan to City Officials
The ESF College Foundation, Inc., plans to construct and operate the facility on Oakland Street, just west of the main ESF campus. The 454-bed facility will house 280 freshmen and 174 upperclassmen.

ESF Students Park at Downtown Campsites, Beach
Forty-two fourth-year landscape architecture students participated in international PARK(ing) Day, an effort to promote creativity and the importance of green space. Throughout Syracuse, groups of students reserved on-street parking spaces for 12 hours and designed scenes that they hoped would call attention to the issue.
