Current Graduate Students:

Nate Anderson – Ph.D.

Research Area:

Nate’s research interests are focused on private forestland and the effects of land ownership patterns

on the economic viability of long-term management for forest products.  He is currently working on two

projects, one in the Catskill Region of New York and the other in the Northern Forest, which spans four

Northeastern states.  In the Catskills, he is examining the impact of parcelization of non-industrial private

forestland (NIPF) on timber quality and the potential for sustainable forest management. The Northern Forest

study is examining how ownership patterns affect economies of scale in wood procurement for primary wood

products producers, including sawmills in both the United States and Canada.

Jennifer Caron – Masters of Science

Research Area:

Jennifer is a M.S. candidate studying Forest and Natural Resource Policy.  She is currently researching the impact

of parcelization on non-industrialized private forestland in the Catskill Region of New York.  Her work focuses on

the physical characteristics of privately owned forests and adjacent land, as well as the owners’ perceptions of forest

management and use of their land.
