FOR558 ADVANCED TOPICS IN GIS
For558 Advanced topics in GIS. The topics for 2007 will be:
- Geoprocessing and will use the on-line ERSI course Geoprocessing with ArcGIS Desktop (those taking the course will have free access so DO NOT BUY it! By completing this course you will be able to:
- Set up and modify the geoprocessing environment.
- Find and run the appropriate geoprocessing tools for a variety of tasks.
- Prepare data for analysis.
- Use geoprocessing tools to create, modify, and analyze spatial data.
- Create custom geoprocessing tools and models.
- Model workflows using geoprocessing tools and ModelBuilder.
- Automate and refine geoprocesses using scripting.
- Document geoprocessing methods for reusability and sharing.
- Customizing the user interface and scripting with the Python macro programming language. Introduction via ESRI's video seminar Getting Started with Scripting in ArcGIS 9. Training via the Python Tutorial (free) but we may use the Python book. ArcGIS includes Python itself.
- Typically you will do 1 or 2 course moduels per week and an additonal Exercise designed to reinforce what was in the module(s) or Python tutorial.
There is no schedule since froming the schedule will be a group project during the first class meeting. Meeting time and place is TBA so registrants will be asked to send me the times they cannot meet -- that is not the times they do not want to meet!
Preq: ENG 550, FOR 324, FOR 357 or FOR 557 or equiv experience with vector ArcGIS 9.x. 3 hrs. The important requirement is that you are comfortable with ArcGIS 9.x. |
