Established: 14 June 1948 through a 1650 acre transfer from the New York Department
of Conservation (NYSDEC) in exchange for the College's Salamanca Forest in Cattaraugus
County.
Current Area: 3900 acres in Cortland and Onondaga Counties; Towns of Truxton,
Preble, Fabius, and Tully.
Purpose: To provide a field laboratory setting within which students, faculty, and
staff of SUNY-ESF can conduct educational, reasearch and demonstration activities as
chartered under the State Education Law.
