Executive Order Travel Ban

  • On March 15, 2017, the U.S. District Court in Hawaii issued a nationwide temporary restraining order (TRO) on the revised entry ban, preventing the Government from enforcing it. Despite the newest TRO, ESF maintains it's Travel Advisory listed below.
  • On March 6, 2017, President Trump signed a new executive order entitled "Protecting the Nation from Terrorist Entry into the United States." The order includes a revised entry ban on nationals of 6 countries (Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, and Yemen). The new order revokes and replaces Executive Order 13769 in its entirety, effective March 16, 2017 for a period of 90 days.
  • On February 3, 2017, the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Washington granted a temporary restraining order (TRO) that temporarily prohibits the Federal government from enforcing the above-mentioned travel ban.  This TRO was subsequently upheld by the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, but further litigation is expected.
  • On January 27, 2017 President Trump signed an Executive Order suspending entry into the United States for 90 days for immigrants and non-immigrants (F/J Visa) from seven countries “of particular concern”: Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Syria, Sudan, and Yemen.

Travel Advisory

Students, faculty, and staff from any of the six countries affected by the revised Executive Order are advised to avoid leaving the U.S. All students, faculty and staff are further advised to suspend travel plans to these countries.

All other students should continue to check in with the Office of International Education prior to traveling as normal. If you find yourself affected by the Executive Order, please make sure to reach out to the Office of International Education (oie@esf.edu).
