Directions to ESF

From I-90:

Take Exit 36 for I-81 south.
Follow I-81 south to exit 18 for East Adams Street (follow signs).
Turn left onto East Adams Street and proceed two blocks to Irving Avenue.
Turn right on Irving Avenue and follow it to the ESF campus entrance, next to the JMA Dome.

From I-81

Take Exit 18 for East Adams Street.
Turn right onto East Adams Street at the end of the exit ramp.
Proceed two blocks to Irving Avenue and turn right.
Follow Irving Avenue to the ESF campus entrance, next to the JMA Dome.

I-81 Construction Closures Alert

There are road closures and detours associated with the I-81 project affecting routes to and from the ESF Syracuse campus in 2026. Beginning April 15, 2026 and expected to be in place for at least six months, the following detours and traffic changes near the Syracuse campus are in place:

Van Buren Street will be closed between Henry and Almond street. Almond Street will be closed northbound to Taylor Street. (red on the map)
Irving Avenue will become one-way, southbound only, from the Upstate Medical University parking garage entrance to Waverly Avenue/Place. (yellow on map)
Harrison Street will become one-way, westbound only, between Crouse and Irving avenues

Visitors to campus are also encouraged to install and use the I-81 Connect mobile app from the New York State Department of Transportation for construction related alerts as they travel throughout the Syracuse area during this ongoing construction project, as many other roadways throughout the area are affected.

Please make appointments for individual visits by calling the Office of Undergraduate Admissions at (315) 470-6600.

Accessibility

Visitors in need of accessible parking facilities must make arrangements for on-campus parking with ESF University Police by calling (315) 470-4996.

Parking for Admissions Events

Weekday Visits

If you made an appointment for an individual visit or event, you will receive a confirmation email with directions to parking and a parking pass to be placed on the dashboard of your vehicle. Go to the ESF Main Campus Map for the location of ESF parking lots and the Gateway Center. The Office of Undergraduate Admissions is located on the second floor of the Gateway Center at the Forestry Drive end of the building.

Weekend Events

If you have registered for a weekend event, you may park anywhere on the ESF campus. Go to the ESF map for the location of ESF parking lots and the Gateway Center. Check-in for weekend events will be in the Gateway Center at the Forestry Drive end of the building.

Irving Parking Garage

Refer to the Irving Parking Garage (directions) map to locate the garage entrance on Stadium Place. Once parked, walk to the ESF campus entrance via Stadium Place and E. Raynor Avenue to the ESF traffic control station.

Sustainable Transportation Methods

Keep in mind ESF’s institutional goals focus on a more sustainable future. Please consider some alternative ways to get to campus. Centro offers a network of services in the CNY area and has a Transit Hub located in downtown Syracuse. Visit their website for the most up-to-date schedules and maps. You can also learn about connecting services to Amtrak, Greyhound, MegaBus and Trailways. Additionally, to move around the Syracuse community there is an electric bike and scooter share program called Veo.
