Want to learn about invasive beetles?
WSTM TV pulled graduate student Jake Wickham from the ESF booth for an interview on the six-o’clock news about the Asian long-horned beetle (ALB). It was a timely request, as Wickham was just two days back from China ,where he spent ten weeks researching the ALB in its native habitat. (8/28)

Overfishing Pushes Baltic Cod to Brink of Economic Extinction
A study of Stone Age fish unearthed on an island in the Baltic Sea suggests overfishing by humans is causing fish populations to evolve and driving commercially valuable species like cod to the brink of economic extinction. (8/27)
Record Freshman Class at ESF
ESFwelcomed a record freshman class of 312 and 173 new transfer students for the 2008-09 academic year. The freshman class includes students from 19 states and sets a record for ESF enrollment from out of state, with 21 percent of the class coming from outside New York. (8/25)

A New Walkway with a Green Twist
The bridge entrance to Moon Library is now surfaced with 'Flexi-Pave', a 50-percent ratio of stone and recycled tires mixed with a urethane binder. Flexi-Pave is porous so rain and melting snow flow through to the ground instead of producing puddles or runoff. (8/25)

SUNY-ESF #15 in U.S. News 'Great Schools, Great Prices' Rankings!
ESF has, for the eighth year in a row, earned a place among the top universities in America, as ranked by U.S. News & World Report. In the 'Great Schools, Great Prices' category of the 2009 edition of America's Best Colleges, ESF is ranked 15th. (8/22)

Today: Butter Sculpture. Tomorrow: Sustainable Fuel
Nine hundred pounds of butter, sculpted into a tribute to New York state’s dairy farmers and positioned as a centerpiece attraction at the New York State Fair, will end up fueling the vehicle fleet at SUNY-ESF. (8/20)
ESF Welcomes New Students
ESF began welcoming new students to campus August 20, as 312 freshmen arrived for fall orientation. They were to be joined later in the week by 172 new transfer students. (8/20)
