Harmful Algal Bloom Summit --Protecting Central New York's WatersCampus Calendar
Tuesday, March 6, 2018
6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Location: Gateway Center Building
Event Description: All across New York State, our waters are at increasing risk from harmful algal blooms (HABs).
Over the last 3 years, HABs have threatened drinking water from Owasco, Skaneateles and Cayuga Lakes and forced the closure of over 100 beaches around the state for at least part of the summer, potentially impacting communities with the loss of critical tourism revenue.
As Washington continues to gut environmental protection regulations, New York, under Governor Cuomo’s leadership, has launched the most comprehensive HAB initiative in the country to protect our water quality and address the threat from HABs.
Governor Cuomo directed the state’s Water Quality Rapid Response Team to convene four regional Harmful Algal Blooms summits that bring together experts, stakeholders and community members to develop tailored action plans to address the problem.
The next HABs Summit is taking place in Central New York and we hope that you’ll attend.
