Event Description: Bob Hargrove '78, ESF Alumni and Former Director of the NEPA Compliance Division for the US Environmental Protection Agency will be hosting a Meet and Greet session. Bob will be answering questions, providing information and detail about working for the EPA, and share about his career path. This is a session where students can come throughout the 11 am - 2 pm time block and stay however long their schedule allows.

Expertise: (i) National Environmental Policy Act, (ii) Environmental Cross-Cutter (e.g., Clean Water Act, Clean Air Act, Endangered Species Act, National Historic Preservation Act, and Coastal Zone management Act) compliance, (iii) Environmental Impact Assessment, (iv) Water Issues, (v) Superfund and Hazardous Waste Issues
Background: Bob began his career with the EPA’s Region 2 Office (in New York) in 1979 as an environmental reviewer and EIS project manager for the Wastewater Treatment Construction Grants Program in the Environmental Impacts Branch (EIB). In 2004, Bob accepted the position of Director, NEPA Compliance Division in EPA Headquarters. In this position, he was responsible for overseeing the implementation of EPA's NEPA Compliance Program and the review of other agencies' EISs pursuant to NEPA and Section 309 of the Clean Air Act.
Bob served on several national work groups tasked with developing policy and guidance for a variety of EPA program areas, including the development of a comprehensive analysis of the Agency’s NEPA compliance program, and guidance to ensure that the Agencies hazardous waste remediation activities comply with environmental cross-cutters (e.g., the Endangered Species Act and the National Historic Preservation Act). Most recently, he chaired the Agency’s workgroup that revised EPA’s NEPA implementing regulations (40 CFR Part 6). Moreover, Bob developed and presented numerous training courses on NEPA and environmental impact assessment techniques.
In June 2011, Bob retired from EPA after 32+ years of service – all of it in the NEPA Program. Since retiring, Bob has continued to provide training courses and lectures on NEPA and environmental cross-cutters. Additionally, he consults on complex NEPA and environmental cross-cutters compliance issues.
