SF's Suzman & Cole Design Expands Leadership Team

In a sign of its increasing visibility and influence in the arena of world-class landscape design, Suzman & Cole Design Associates (www.suzmancole.com) has announced the addition of two top-flight designers to its team: Kathy Bogaski and Jay Swaintek.
"Kathy and Jay reflect the very best in design and execution," said Suzman & Cole founder and principal Stephen Suzman. We want to expand into the realms of resorts, healthcare and higher education; Kathy and Jay will help us do so."
As a Principal and Director of Design Staff, Bogaski's responsibilities at Suzman & Cole encompass all phases of design through construction observation. With over 18 years of design leadership and project management experience Bogaski is a registered Landscape Architect in New Mexico, Maryland and Michigan. She received an MA, BLA, and BS in Horticulture from Michigan State University, and a Masters of Landscape Architecture (in process) from the University of Michigan with a specialization in ecologically sensitive design.
Swaintek brings a breadth of experience in planning and site design including institutional corporate, and campus design, resort and hospitality facilities, park and recreational design, streetscapes and urban design. He received a Bachelor of Science in Economics from Penn State University, and a Master of Landscape Architecture from the State University of New York-College of Environmental Science and Forestry.

Prior to joining Suzman & Cole, Bogaski designed and managed a variety of challenging projects including master plans and site designs for rural and urban parks, institutional facilities, residential communities and private gardens as well as historic and ecological restoration projects. Her most recent work includes award-winning designs for the historic La Posada Hotel in Santa Fe, the Montezuma Castle and Field house at the United World College, design guidelines and site design for the Los Alamos National Laboratory, a sustainable water-management manual for the Rancho Viejo Residential Community in Santa Fe, and a reuse and remediation plan for the Amoco Refinery in Casper, Wyoming.
Swaintek's current projects include private residences in Woodside, California and North Kona, Hawaii and a Resort and Spa in Napa County. His experience as a Project Manager ranges in project scale and in construction budget, having managed large multi-discipline projects to small private courtyards. Past projects include NYU Medical Center RUSK Children's Playgarden, Montshire Museum of Science, Northern California National Veterans Cemetery, various Harvard Business School design studies, Newport Beach Marriott Hotel, Shady Oaks Sports Park in San Jose, and Boston's Central Artery and Tunnel surface restoration project. He also serves as an instructor at UC Berkeley Extension's Landscape Architecture program.
Suzman & Cole Design Associates has built an experienced professional staff that includes landscape architects, planners and horticultural specialists and designed many diverse landscape projects that span the globe: from residential estates in Northern California, Hawaii, Palm Springs, San Diego and Martha's Vineyard, to an Art Deco rooftop in Paris, corporate and educational campuses in Northern California, a golf club in Monterey, a resort in Calistoga, mixed-use complexes in the Pacific Northwest , a retreat in South Africa and the master plan for Palm Island in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. With a wide range of projects undertaken over the past 25 years, Cole has for the last 13 years overseen a specialized practice in the design of residential gardens which has taken him to the far reaches of the continental United States and Hawaii. His focus has been on the technical competency and craftsmanship of unique garden spaces for clients in Montana, Palm Springs, Pebble Beach and Northern California. Prior to developing his own practice, he spent ten years involved in urban design, community planning, housing and institutional design projects for various prominent firms in Denver, New York, Philadelphia, and Santa Barbara.
