Research

My research interests are focused on a broad array of topics related to the biological and sunlight-driven (photochemical) transformations of natural organic matter in the oceans and atmosphere, as detailed in my publications (Google Scholar). Research from my lab group has led to the discovery of new molecules, new physiological functions of molecules, and new pathways for organic carbon removal in the oceans and atmosphere. These discoveries and others were made through research conducted in my home laboratory in Syracuse as well as at field stations and on oceanographic research vessels around the world including, for example, the Black Sea, the Mediterranean Sea, the subarctic Pacific Ocean, the Ross Sea, Antarctica and the coral reefs of Mo’orea, French Polynesia (wordpress).
