Forest pathology

Forest pathology students learn how to identify evidence of the diseases that attack trees and wood, then how to prevent or control such attacks. Tree diseases can not only cause losses for forest owners and wood buyers, but also damage the supply of a resource fundamental to human welfare. Blister rust, a fungus, is a major menace to white pine. Chestnut has almost disappeared in America because of the chestnut blight. (Photo and information from SUNY-ESF College Archives)
