ESF Readies to Celebrate Earth Week

At the SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry, we believe that the Earth’s celebration is worthy of an entire week, not just a day. From April 17 to April 21, SUNY ESF will celebrate Earth Week with a full slate of events planned by students to celebrate the Earth and call attention to environmental and social justice issues.

Some of this year’s activities include interactive workshops, an American Chestnut planting, volunteer opportunities, hikes, and a music festival. This year’s theme is “Our Planet and Us: Environmental Health is Human Health.”

“Earth Week is a time when our students’ leadership shines through, as they plan and organize all of the activities that celebrate, educate, and advocate for our planet,” said ESF President Joanie Mahoney. “The week is truly a testament to our students’ commitment to improving our world and finding solutions to our most pressing environmental issues. Their passion for the Earth is impressive and inspiring.”

Along with celebrating Earth Day on April 22, the College will mark SUNY ESF Day as proclaimed by the City of Syracuse and Onondaga County in 2020, which marked the 50th anniversary of Earth Day and the contributions ESF has made to local, state, and national environmental and sustainability efforts. In recognition, it was proclaimed that Earth Day in the City of Syracuse and Onondaga County would also be known as SUNY ESF Day.

Event details and a full list of activities are available on the ESF Earth Week calendar.
