Environmental Science Lessons Draw Scouts to ESF
Members of Boy Scout Troop 40 of Longhouse Council got some lessons in hydrology when they met in Baker Laboratory at ESF. The scouts, who were working on environmental science merit badges, got to see a flume in action with the help of ERE graduate student Mike Fay.
The scouts met in the James M. Hassett Laboratory for the Study of Hydrology and Hydraulics. The lab contains a 7-meter sediment and water recirculating flume, a 3-meter teaching flume, a river hydraulics table and other field and laboratory equipment. The lab was named in honor of a longtime ESF faculty member who chaired the Department of Environmental Resources Engineering (ERE).
ESF Professor Theodore Dibble, associate chair of the Department of Chemistry, is the scouts' official counselor for the environmental science merit badge.
The boys are from Manlius, Fayetteville, DeWitt and Syracuse.
