Teachers Take Bio-cultural Tour of Onondaga Lake

High school teachers in the ESF in the High School program particpated in a bio-cultural walk at Onondaga Lake Park Sept. 1 as part of their summer professional development. The tour was led by Neil Patterson, Jr., Tuscarora and assistant director of the ESF Center for Native Peoples and the Environment, and Curtis Waterman, Onondaga and member of the Haudenosaunee Environmental Task Force.

The bio-cultural tour included walking and exploring the Onondaga Lake waterfront along with a hands-on activity. Native American perspectives were presented and discussed in relation to the curriculum taught in the high schools under the direction of Dr. Rick Beal, assistant dean for K-12 STEM education and director of ESF in the High School.

ESF in the High School is a dual enrollment program run by ESF in more than 40 schools across New York state.
