Office of Career Services Honored for Career Development Program

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Aug. 3, 2023 – The Office of Career Services at the SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry’s (ESF) Office of Career Services was honored during the 2023 National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) Awards.

The Career Services team of Dr. John Turbeville, Casey Duffy, and Meridith Chase received the Career Service Excellence Award, Honorable Mention for ESF’s Betsy and Jesse Fink Career Development Program.

Turbeville and Duffy created the Betsy and Jesse Fink Career Development Program to enhance equity and access to pursue professional development experiences such as internships, conference attendance, projects, research, and career-related travel. Faced with the reality that the lack of personal funding can sometimes hinder students from taking advantage of life-changing opportunities, students committed to solving current environmental challenges can seek financial support through this program, made possible by the generous donations of alumni and supporters of the College.

The Betsy and Jesse Fink Career Development Program consists of four parts:

  • Career Fellowships
  • Regional Internship Program
  • Thomas Slocum Career Advancement Award
  • Professional Development Experience

“To be recognized on a national level against larger, private colleges is impressive and puts us in some rather elite company,” said Turbeville, “but being able to put resources in the hands of our students is the important part.”

The Betsy and Jesse Fink Career Development Program was also recognized in June for Excellence in Career Development/Exploration Programming by SUNY Career Development Organization during their annual conference in Albany.

Established in 1956, NACE is a professional association that connects more than 16,100 college career services professionals, university relations and recruiting professionals, and the business solution providers that serve this community.
