Residence Hall Move-In: What to Bring & What Not to Bring
New-Student Move-In is right around the corner. New students living in triples will
arrive on Monday, Aug. 21 and new students living in all other room types will follow
on Tuesday, Aug. 22. To make your college move as smooth as possible, it’s important
to know what to bring – and what to leave at home.
Here's a full list of items straight from our staff at Centennial Hall.
What to Bring
- Twin XL bedding (Full XL for four-bedroom apts)
- Bath towels
- Power strip w/ a surge protector & circuit breakers
- Personal computer/ laptop
- Desk lamp (and light bulbs)
- Laundry bag/basket
- Laundry detergent
- Winter coat & boots
- Personal hygiene products (toothpaste, deodorant, etc..)
- Hiking and/or rain boots
- Umbrella
- Hangers
- Textbooks/school supplies
- Medications
- Identification (license or passport)
What Not to Bring
- Mini-fridge or microwave (Supplied in your dorm room automatically)
- Candles/incense
- Flushable wipes
- Grills, toaster ovens, toasters, air fryers, etc.
- Tapestries, flags or other cloth decorations
- Halogen lamps, neon signs, black lights
- Medusa or octopus Lamps
- Extension cords
- Anything with an open heat component (hot plate, griddle, toaster, coffee pot/heater, etc.)
- Firearms (even if you hunt or shoot for sport)
- Flammable liquids
- Air conditioners & space heaters/heat-emitting devices
- Dart boards or other items that will cause damage to the college property
- Bed Risers with electrical outlets, or other items being used as bed risers. (e.g. cinder blocks, bricks, pieces of wood, etc.)
- Drones
