Dr. Greg Boyer Honored with Lifetime Research and Service Award

SYRACUSE, N.Y. — Dec. 3, 2024 — Dr. Greg Boyer, professor emeritus at the SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry (ESF), has been honored with the National Harmful Algal Blooms (HAB) Committee’s Lifetime Research and Service Award. The award, presented biennially, is the highest recognition given by the National HAB Committee.

The award was presented to Boyer at the 12th U.S. Conference on Harmful Algal Blooms, held in November in Portland, Maine. The event attracted over 550 participants from 48 states and five countries.

Boyer was recognized for his more than 40 years of distinguished contributions to HAB research, management, and outreach. His work spans marine and freshwater HABs, and he has played a pivotal role in initiatives with the U.S. National HAB Program, the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, the New York Federation of Lake Associations, and the Lake Erie Center for Freshwater and Human Health.
