SUNY ESF Appoints Diana Jaramillo as Director of Facilities

The SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry (ESF), the most distinguished institution in the nation that focuses on the study of the environment, is thrilled to welcome Diana Jaramillo as the College's Director of Facilities.

"Diana is joining ESF in a critical position at an important juncture. Her creativity and vision will help the College strategically adapt to changes in higher education and position ESF for success in its second century," said Mark Lichtenstein, Executive Operating Officer at ESF.

Jaramillo will provide overall leadership and support of facilities planning, design, and construction on ESF's Syracuse campus and satellite properties. She will ensure that facilities-related efforts reflect the College's commitment to the environment, energy conservation and efficiency, and sustainability while helping lead the College toward achieving its zero-waste and net-carbon-negative goals.

Born and raised in Guayaquil, Ecuador, Jaramillo is an award-winning licensed architect and entrepreneur. She established her firm, Kin Studio, in 2017 with the mission to practice diverse, equitable, and sustainable architecture, and worked on a variety of commercial, retail, residential, and community projects. Most recently, she served as general engineer at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs in Syracuse.

"Having spent countless hours on the ESF campus as a child while my mother pursued her master's degree and Ph.D., I feel like I am coming back full circle from literally the place where I started," Jaramillo said. "I think the sky is the limit as far as what we can do with sustainability efforts on campus and I look forward to working with the students, faculty, and staff to make it all happen."

Jaramillo is an ESF graduate, having earned her master's degree in sustainable construction management. She also holds a Bachelor of Architecture from Syracuse University and an associate degree in architectural technology from Onondaga Community College. A resident of Syracuse, she also serves on the committee for Equity, Diversity and Inclusion for the American Institute of Architects of Central New York.
