ESF WEATHER ALERT: Non-Essential Personnel Encouraged to Depart No Later Than Noon Friday, Dec. 23

Due to wind chill advisories and freezing weather expected in the Central New York region, supervisors should dismiss all non-essential personnel who are working on campus today no later than noon. Essential employees — including those who are responsible for clearing and removing snow, and ensuring public safety — are still required to report to their scheduled shifts. Anyone concerned about their safety should contact their supervisor. ESF encourages its community members to travel safely and take proper precautions when traveling to/from work.

ESF WEATHER ALERT: Monitoring Winter Weather and Travel Conditions for Friday, Dec. 23

ESF is currently monitoring and assessing weather conditions, including a wind chill advisory, for Friday, Dec. 23. This effort includes reviewing the most up-to-date National Weather Service data and forecasting, and consulting with Syracuse University and its independent meteorologist, about what to expect. Based on current conditions, ESF expects to remain open and operational Friday, Dec. 23, 2022.

Extreme Weather Communications

With winter weather upon us, here are some imporant reminders regarding how ESF navigates and communicates about extreme weather conditions. ESF remains open and observes class schedules in most weather conditions, but we will always prioritize the safety and well-being of our community. The College makes weather-related decisions based on the most up-to-date national weather service data and forecasting, as well as in consultation with Syracuse University officials, SU's independent meteorologist, ESF University Police, and the ESF grounds/snow removal crews. This information informs our decisions about weather delays, closings, or other operational changes.

ESF Graduates Encouraged to Show Humankind a Better Way

"We all came to ESF with a purpose: Help the world be better than when we found it. Now is when we make our debut to the world, equipped with the knowledge and the skills to create solutions in a world in a state of constant chaos," said Muskan Shrivastava, student speaker to graduates during December Commencement exercises for the SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry (ESF).

Alumni Spotlight: Eric E. Murdock ’93

Murdock finds time to give back to his industry and ESF. He is a volunteer with the New York Onsite Wastewater Training Network where he serves as vice chair and a lead environmental trainer. At ESF, he is an alumni speaker, guest instructor, and career advisor for the ERE department. For his outstanding contributions in the field of environmental resources engineering, we proudly recognize Eric Murdock as the 2022 Graduate of Distinction in the Notable Achievement category.

Alumni Spotlight: Meera Jagroop '12

Since graduating from ESF in 2012, Meera Jagroop has connected children and teens – often in urban settings – with nature through hands-on, inquiry-based activities to ensure the planet is in well-informed and caring hands.

ESF to Celebrate December Graduates

The SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry (ESF), one of the nation's premier colleges focused exclusively on the study of the environment, developing renewable technologies, and building a sustainable future, will award 86 degrees, including 29 master's degrees and 12 Doctor of Philosophy degrees, during the 2022 December Commencement at 3 p.m. Dec. 9 at Hendricks Chapel. A reception will follow at ESF's Gateway Conference Center.
