ESF Weather Alert: Classes and Events Cancelled at 5 p.m.

ESF Weather Alert

Due to inclement weather, ESF classes and events are cancelled for today (Feb. 3) starting at 5 p.m. Only essential employees are required to report.

A Winter Storm Warning is predicting heavy snow for Central New York, with increasing intensity beginning late this afternoon and up to more than a foot of snow expected by tomorrow (Friday, Feb. 4).

ESF will continue monitoring the weather conditions for tomorrow morning's commute and work in close contact with our counterparts at Syracuse University. In the event of continued inclement weather and if additional schedule changes become necessary, updated information will be announced through the following channels:

  • College-wide email: You will receive an email with the subject line ESF WEATHER ALERT
  • ESF.edu: Delays or cancellations will be posted on the homepage
  • Local media: CNY Central, LocalSyr, Spectrum News, Syracuse.com
  • Campus phone system message

How ESF Makes Weather Decisions

ESF makes weather-related decisions based on the most up-to-date National Weather Service data and forecasting, and consulting with Syracuse University officials, SU's independent meteorologist, ESF University Police, and the ESF Grounds/Snow Removal crews.

ESF remains open and observes class schedules in most weather conditions, but we will always prioritize the safety and well-being of our community. If classes and events are cancelled, Centennial Hall and SU's dining services continue to remain operational. In the event of extreme weather emergency conditions, additional instructions may be communicated to the College community.

Although ESF rarely cancels classes for inclement weather, individuals must make personal decisions based on a risk assessment related to travel. Employees are encouraged to take precautions and use good judgment when traveling to/from work. Faculty and staff concerned about their safety should contact their department chair or supervisor, respectively.
